The Organizer's Guide to Reviewing Event Staff Applications

Evexa Team·30 April 2026·5 min read

A flood of applicants for a posted role feels like a good problem to have, until you realize you have no consistent way to compare them beyond gut instinct and response time.

Verification status first, everything else after

Before comparing anything else, filter out applicants whose identity you can't verify. It's the one criterion that should never be a trade-off against other factors like availability or price.

Weigh track record over self-description

An applicant's own description of their experience is worth far less than any verifiable record of past events and ratings. Where a track record exists, prioritize it over how well someone describes themselves.

Compare like for like

Applicants for different departments or roles shouldn't really be compared against each other — evaluate hospitality applicants against other hospitality applicants, not against technical crew applying for a different role entirely.

Don't let response speed override everything else

The fastest applicant to respond isn't necessarily the best fit. Give yourself a reasonable window to review a full applicant pool rather than accepting the first response purely because it arrived first.
