What to Look for Before You Accept a Freelance Event Gig

Evexa Team·15 May 2026·4 min read

Accepting a gig fast can feel necessary in a competitive freelance market, but a few quick checks before committing catch most of the problems that show up later.

Confirm the rate and the hours together

A rate without confirmed hours isn't a complete offer. Ask specifically how long the shift is expected to run before agreeing, not just what it pays.

Ask who else is confirmed

Whether other roles for the event are already filled can tell you something about how organized the planning is, and how likely the event is to actually run as described.

Check what happens if the event changes or cancels

Events get postponed or rescheduled. Know in advance whether you'd still be paid, partially or fully, if that happens — it's a reasonable question to ask before committing.

Look for a verifiable organizer, not just a message

Where possible, work with organizers who have some form of track record or verification, rather than an unnamed contact reachable only through a single chat thread.
